MEDITATIONS
AND REFLECTIONS
Jesus in delivering
truth of the gospel used ordinary images, such as salt and light. Salt by its
function serve the purpose of keeping food from decay, it purifies. Likewise,
the image used by Christ is the message of the gospel concerning our mission
and our apostolate God is calling each one of us to accomplish. The transforming
God’s effect in our lives should be manifested in our mission. The power of the
Holy Spirit should first purify us so that we may also purify others and bring
God’s Kingdom into their lives.
We are all called not
to lose salt taste in our mission. We are salt when we persist sin to dominate
us in our lives. Through virtuous life, e.g., good works of mercy, forgiveness,
kindness, humbleness, etc. Being like salt we are invited to transform the part
of our communities and society at large that seem to be immoral, in this
perspective we are invited to be radical in reviving the lost Christian and
ethical morals. It is a call to each one of us to be the light to that which appears
to be the dark side of the society (public scandals, like homosexuality, Pedophilia,
corruption, etc)
Jesus also used the
image of a lamp to describe how his disciples are to live in the light of his
truth and love. By our virtue of baptism we are all invited to be the example
to others who have not received the good news. Our mission is to preach the
deeds of Jesus in words and actions so that others may see the truth of the gospels
in our life and finally may see Christ in us. Thus by living according to the
teaching of Jesus the disciples will manifest the goodness of God to others.
