MEDITATIONS
AND REFLECTIONS
In the gospel Jesus
calls his disciples not to repay evil with evil, but to respond evil with
goodness. The worst instinct in human being is to respond in an evil way to
goodness. The best instinct of human nature is to overcome evil with good, this
can be termed as divine instinct, and this was the very way of Jesus. He does
something unexpected. He transforms the law of mercy with grace, forbearance and
loving kindness. It is a call to each one of us that we must pray and wish well
even to those who seem to be our rivals. He overcame the evil that was done to
him with good. For instance when he was violently rejected he revealed his love
most fully, he became faithful in the face of unfaithfulness. We too are invited
to become peace makers in the face of violence done to us. We cannot accomplish
this obligation with our own strengths; rather we need a spirit of God to guide
us. In the first reading Paul is calling on us not to neglect the grace of God
we have received. As Christians we make difference from the rest of
denominations by treating others not as they deserve, but as God wishes them to
be treated with Loving kindness and mercy. Once we think and meditate upon the
cross of Christ, thus we become freed from tyranny of malice, revenge and
resentment and thus have a courage to repay good for evil, and that is what we
call the justice of God.
